In Kenya, blood transfusions are vital in saving lives, especially as approximately seven people require blood every 10 minutes. Despite the high demand, the country faces a significant shortage of blood, with only 16% of the required supply collected. The Kenya Tissue and Transplant Authority (KTTA), established in August 2022, has taken the initiative to collect, test, process, and distribute blood and blood products to transfusing hospitals across the country.

The Kenya National Blood Transfusion Service (KNBTS), rebranded as the Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Service (KBTTS), manages blood collection across 6 Regional Blood Transfusion Centres (RBTCs) and 14 satellite centres. While most government centres are closed on Sundays, the

• Requirements: Donors should be between 16 and 65 years old, weigh at least 50kg, and be in good general health.
