KMTC Kisumu Campus, one of the largest KMTC campuses in Kenya, was established in 1953. Situated next to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital in the Kondele area, this campus has a yearly output of over 200 health professionals. The campus provides various training programs, ranging from certificate to higher diploma courses in the healthcare field.
1. Diploma in Community Health Nursing
- Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Chemistry, Physics/Physical Science, or Mathematics.
- Duration: 3 years
2. Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
- Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and C in Biology/Biological Sciences, C- in Chemistry/Physical Sciences, C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Physics/Physical Sciences.
- Duration: 3 years
3. Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences
- Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and Physics/Physical Sciences and Biology/Biological Sciences. C- in any one of the following: Mathematics, Chemistry.
- Duration: 3 years
4. Diploma in Pharmacy
- Requirements: Mean Grade C, C in English or Kiswahili, and Chemistry/Physical Science and Biology/Biological Sciences. C in any one of the following: Physics/Physical Sciences or Mathematics.
- Duration: 3 years
5. Certificate in Medical Engineering
- Requirements: Mean Grade C-, C- in English or Kiswahili, D in Mathematics and D- in Physics/Physical Sciences. D in any one of the following: Chemistry, Biology/Biological Sciences, Electricity, Metal Work, Technical Drawing.
- Duration: 2 years
6. Higher Diploma in Ultrasound
- Requirements: Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences or its equivalent.
- Duration: 2 years
7. Higher Diploma in Paediatric Nursing
- Requirements: Diploma in Orthopaedic Trauma Medicine.
- Duration: 2 years
8. Higher Diploma in Anaesthesia (Nursing and Clinical Medicine)
- Requirements: Diploma in Clinical Medicine & Surgery.
- Duration: 2 years
9. Short Course in HIV Testing Services (HTS)
- Requirements: Health workers, or anyone interested in working in HIV/AIDS programs (minimum Diploma).
- Duration: 2 weeks
Clinical Experience Sites
Students at KMTC Kisumu Campus gain practical experience primarily at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital and Kisumu County Hospital, both located approximately two kilometers from the campus. Additional rural clinical training is offered at:
- Mbale Rural Health Training Centre
- Mosoriot Rural Health Training Centre
- Muhoroni Rural Health Training Centre
