Nyeri, Kenya, Jan 17 — President William Ruto has laid out his political roadmap toward the 2027 General Election, emphasizing unity, collaboration, and development continuity during a major meeting with grassroots leaders in Nyeri County. The President said his administration will continue using the authority of his office to bring Kenyans together and strengthen inclusive governance.

Speaking at Sagana State Lodge, where he hosted more than 17,000 grassroots leaders from the United Democratic Alliance, Ruto said the ruling party is actively building partnerships with other political formations to create a broad-based and stable political movement. He noted that national unity remains central to addressing historical inequalities in the sharing of national resources.

Ruto told the leaders that political competition does not require one group to lose for another to gain. Instead, he said the government’s approach focuses on expanding economic opportunities so that all Kenyans benefit. He described the administration’s economic agenda as a strategy to grow national wealth rather than divide limited resources.

The meeting brought together senior leaders, including Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire, and Members of Parliament led by National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah. The President said Kenya needs strong, visionary leadership and resilient national parties capable of sustaining development beyond individual leaders or election cycles.

Ruto called on Kenyans to reject divisive politics based on ethnicity, hatred, or violence, arguing that sustainable development can only be achieved through cooperation, patience, and shared purpose. He said leadership and national transformation require humility and consistent hard work rather than confrontation.

Highlighting the government’s performance, the President said the administration has stabilised the economy and implemented reforms in agriculture, healthcare, and education while creating millions of jobs. He added that the government is proud of its development record over the past three years and remains focused on long-term growth.

Looking ahead, Ruto outlined major infrastructure projects planned or underway, including the construction of 30,000 kilometres of roads, with 2,500 kilometres set to be dual carriageways. He said the Standard Gauge Railway will be extended from Naivasha to Kisumu and onward to the Uganda border, alongside the modernisation of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. Other flagship projects mentioned included the Bomas International Convention Centre and Talanta Stadium.

On party organisation, Ruto said UDA will hold ward, constituency, county, and national elections to strengthen internal democracy. He added that he will personally meet grassroots leaders in every county to energise the party and popularise its agenda. According to the President, UDA has already elected about 580,000 polling centre officials nationwide, with 2.4 million members participating in recent grassroots polls.

Turning to local development, Ruto said the government has allocated Sh4 billion for road construction in Nyeri County. He noted that Mau Mau roads, which were about 20 percent complete when he took office in 2022, have now reached between 60 and 70 percent completion and are expected to be finished later this year.

Additional allocations include Sh21 billion for affordable housing, markets, and hostels, Sh1.4 billion for electricity connectivity, and another Sh4 billion for roads. The President assured residents that no government project in Nyeri County would stall under his administration.

In his remarks, Ichung’wah said the Mt Kenya region aligns with UDA because of its national outlook and commitment to unity. Governor Mbarire praised the party’s internal inclusivity, noting that women make up 36.5 percent of elected UDA officials.
