In August 2022, the government of Kenya introduced new digital number plates for vehicles to enhance road safety, reduce vehicle-related crimes, and improve tracking systems. The new plates come with advanced features, including a QR code, a microchip, a Kenyan flag, holograms, and an NTSA serial number. These features will make it easier for the government to track stolen vehicles, monitor road safety, and manage vehicle ownership details.
All imported vehicles are fitted with the new plates at the point of entry. However, owners of already registered vehicles need to apply for the new number plates. In this guide, we will walk you through the application process and provide you with important details about the new plates.
