Paying your KPLC bill through M-Pesa is a fast, easy, and convenient way to settle your electricity bills without the hassle of long queues or missing deadlines. Whether you’re topping up prepaid tokens or clearing a postpaid bill, M-Pesa allows you to complete the process in just a few minutes, right from the comfort of your home or on the go.

This step-by-step guide will show you exactly how to pay your KPLC bill via M-Pesa, whether you’re using a prepaid or postpaid electricity connection.

How to Pay KPLC Bill Via M-Pesa in Minutes

Kenya Power offers two distinct methods for paying bills through M-Pesa: one for prepaid meters (via PayBill number 888880) and another for postpaid bills (via PayBill number 888888). Here’s how to make your payments quickly:

1. Buying Prepaid Tokens via M-PESA (PayBill Number: 888880)

If you’re using a prepaid meter, follow these easy steps to buy tokens via M-Pesa:

  1. Open your M-PESA menu on your phone.
  2. Tap Lipa na M-PESA.
  3. Choose PayBill.
  4. Enter 888880 as the Business Number (this is the PayBill number for KPLC prepaid).
  5. Enter your KPLC prepaid meter number.
  6. Enter the amount (between KSh 100 and KSh 35,000).
  7. Key in your M-PESA PIN and press OK.
  8. Confirm all details and press OK again.
  9. You will receive an SMS from M-Pesa confirming the payment.
  10. KPLC will then send you a token number via SMS.
  11. Input the token into your meter to restore or top-up your electricity.

2. Paying Postpaid Electricity Bill via M-PESA (PayBill Number: 888888)

For postpaid customers, who receive a monthly bill, here’s how you can pay through M-Pesa:

  1. Open the M-PESA menu.
  2. Go to Lipa na M-PESA.
  3. Select PayBill.
  4. Enter 888888 as the Business Number (this is the PayBill number for KPLC postpaid).
  5. Enter your KPLC account number (not your meter number).
  6. Enter the amount (from KSh 100 to KSh 35,000).
  7. Key in your M-PESA PIN and press OK.
  8. Confirm all details and press OK.
  9. You will receive a confirmation message from M-Pesa.
  10. KPLC will send you a message confirming that your bill has been paid.

This payment process clears your outstanding balance instantly, and you’ll be notified of the successful transaction.

What to Do If Payment Fails

Although payments are usually processed quickly, sometimes delays or failures can occur. If your payment doesn’t go through or takes longer than expected, follow these steps:

  1. Check your transaction details to ensure everything is correct.
  2. Wait for a few minutes as sometimes network delays happen.
  3. If the payment is still not reflecting, contact KPLC’s customer care for assistance:
    • Call: +254 203201000 / 0703 070 707 / 0732 170 170
    • Twitter: @KenyaPower_Care
    • Facebook: Kenya Power Care
Provide your meter number, PayBill transaction details, and transaction ID for faster resolution.

Conclusion

Paying your KPLC bill via M-Pesa is a quick, convenient, and secure method that can be done at any time of the day, 24/7. Whether you need to top up your prepaid meter or clear your postpaid bill, M-Pesa makes the process seamless and stress-free.
