Super Metro is one of Nairobi’s most popular and reliable matatu services, known for its excellent service and reputation. Many entrepreneurs are eager to join this successful venture due to its steady income and established brand. If you’re looking to become part of the Super Metro Sacco, you have two options: purchasing a matatu independently or purchasing one through the Sacco with full financing. Here’s a comprehensive guide on how to join the Super Metro Matatu Sacco.

Requirements to Own a Super Metro Matatu

To become a member of the Super Metro Sacco, you need to meet a few financial and operational requirements. These include registration fees, share capital, and other technical costs. Here’s a breakdown of the costs involved:

1. Sacco Registration and Share Capital

  • Sacco Registration Fee: Ksh 5,000
  • Share Capital: Ksh 10,000
These payments are mandatory for all members who wish to join the Sacco. The registration fee covers administrative costs, while the share capital contributes to the ownership stake in the Sacco.

2. Entrance Fee and Self-financing Options

If you are self-financing the purchase of the matatu:

  • Entrance Fee: Ksh 50,000 (for self-financing)
If the Sacco is facilitating the purchase, the entrance fee is Ksh 100,000.

3. Matatu Purchase and Financing

For those purchasing a matatu, the cost of the standard Isuzu NQR matatu is Ksh 6.5 Million.

  • You must raise 30% of the total cost as a deposit. This is approximately Ksh 1.96 Million.
  • The Sacco offers financing for the balance, with a repayment period of 48 months.
  • Monthly Installments: Ksh 121,000, due on the 30th of each month.

4. Additional Technical Fees

In addition to the matatu purchase and entrance fees, there are several other technical fees to consider:

  • Tracking Device Fee: Ksh 25,000
  • Debenture Fee: Ksh 20,000
  • Processing Fee: Ksh 65,000
  • Comprehensive Insurance: Ksh 55,000
  • Third-Party Insurance: Ksh 16,000
  • Transport Licensing Board (TLB) Fee: Ksh 4,500

5. Seasonal Operating Fees

Once your payment obligations are settled, you will be allowed to begin operations. However, a seasonal fee of Ksh 13,000 is charged for the three counties in which Super Metro operates: Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, and Kajiado.

6. Super Metro Routes

Super Metro Sacco operates several routes across Nairobi and its surrounding areas. These include:

  • Nairobi CBD
  • Kinoo
  • Makongeni
  • Kahawa West
  • Thika
  • Juja
  • Roysambu
  • Ngong
  • Kikuyu
  • Westlands
  • Malaa
  • Kitengela

These routes ensure that Super Metro reaches a wide range of areas within the Nairobi Metropolitan region, catering to the growing demand for reliable public transport services.

How to Start Operations with Super Metro

Once all the required fees have been settled and you have the necessary financing in place, you can begin operating your matatu under the Super Metro Sacco. The Sacco will provide you with all the operational support you need to ensure smooth operations. The seasonal fee and other technical requirements must be maintained to keep the business running efficiently.

Conclusion: A Profitable Venture

Joining the Super Metro Matatu Sacco is a great way to tap into one of Kenya’s most successful and profitable transport ventures. With a well-established reputation, high demand, and guaranteed income, Super Metro is an attractive option for investors. By meeting the financial requirements and following the Sacco’s procedures, you can start your journey as a Super Metro distributor and enjoy the benefits of this growing business.
