Lord Kenya, born Kainya on September 19, 1978, is a renowned former Ghanaian Hiplife artist who transitioned to becoming an Evangelist. Widely known for his hits like “Enyom No” and “Medo,” Lord Kenya’s career spans both his successful music days and his spiritual journey into ministry.

Early Life and Education

Lord Kenya was born to an Nzema father from Sanzule and an Asante mother from Fumesua, Kumasi. Growing up in a musical family, his parents originally desired for him to pursue law. However, his passion for music grew early, and at just 17 years old, he decided to pursue a career in music, though his parents initially hoped he would follow a different path.

Kenya attended Central International School for his primary education and then moved on to Anglican Senior High School in Kumasi, where he excelled in athletics, particularly the 400m and 110m hurdles. He later continued his secondary education at Nkwatia Secondary School and Mpraeso Secondary School, also in Ghana’s Eastern Region.

Music Career

Lord Kenya’s journey into professional music started when he joined Slip Music in 1998. His debut album, “Sika Card”, became an instant hit in Ghana, launching his career into stardom. Over the years, he released several successful albums, including:

  • Sika Card
  • Sika Baa
  • Yeesom Sika (which topped charts)
  • Sika Mpo Fane Ho
  • Akasieni
  • Born Again
  • God Dey

Lord Kenya’s style, rooted in the popular Hiplife genre, blended traditional Ghanaian rhythms with modern rap and highlife elements. His work earned him numerous accolades, including the Hiplife Album of the Year at the 2001 Ghana Music Awards and the Best Ghanaian Rap Music Award at the Anansekrom Festival in Canada in 2000.

Religious Conversion and Evangelism

Despite his musical success, Lord Kenya’s life took a significant turn in 2010 when he had a profound encounter with the Holy Spirit. This experience led him to completely change his lifestyle. He gave up his Hiplife music career and decided to dedicate his life to spreading the gospel.

In 2011, he released his Gospel album, “Christlife”, marking his official transition to Evangelism. Kenya is now the leader of the Face of Grace Covenant Temple in Kumasi and continues to inspire others through his faith. His journey has not been without challenges, particularly when it came to relinquishing the royalties from his past music albums, but he believes that his new path saves his soul and brings him true fulfillment.

Legacy and Impact

Lord Kenya’s transformation from a popular Hiplife star to a respected Evangelist has made him a figure of inspiration for many in Ghana and beyond. His story is a testament to personal growth, the power of spiritual transformation, and the willingness to change one’s life for a higher calling.
